In order to properly celebrate on the most energizing of holidays, National Coffee Day, I must pay homage to the substance that has given me so much over the past few years.
It's a pretty well known fact that I am a caffeine addict. I take "America runs on Dunkin" as more of a challenge than a quippy line and would argue that I am far from fuel-efficient as it takes at least a few caffeinated beverages to get through even the most routine of days.
So, I would be doing the one I want to see first every morning a great deal of disservice if I did not express my true feelings for it on its special day. Here is my metaphorical "pic collage" on your timeline to celebrate you, old pal.
Dear coffee,
Thank you for defeating the gravitational pull of the bed each morning and forcing me to join the land of the living (and caffeinated.)
Dear coffee,
On especially trying days, thank you for being the vessel that makes chocolate, whip cream or caramel a socially acceptable and adult breakfast food.
Dear coffee,
Thank you for being the coach that says "you can do it, champ" each morning... and wine thank you for being there at the end of the day to say, "it's okay, you'll get 'em next time."
Dear coffee,
Thanks for being so beautiful in instagrams on days when our faces just aren't quite cutting it, and thank you for coming in seasonal cups so that we have something to snap our friends and [fellow?] basics.

Dear coffee,
Thanks for allowing us to participate in "mugging" even though it is no longer a Thursday night activity with college friends.
Dear coffee,
Thanks for reminding us to stay grounded and expresso ourselves... sorry, couldn't resist the chance for a good pun. No shame.
Dear coffee,
Thanks for being the Windex of beverages with cures for everything from sleep deprivation, crankiness, hangovers, headaches and probably even heartbreak.

And finally, coffee, thanks for being free at the majority of locations on Sept. 29th. Because the world needs more random holidays. And more coffee.
